11 DISQUALIFIED FROM GH SCHOOLS SRC ELECTIONS FOLLOWING VETTING RESULTS
By Osei Nathanael and Yayra Jemimah
In a dramatic turn of events ahead of the upcoming GH SCHOOLS Students' Representative Council (SRC) elections, 11 aspirants have been disqualified after failing to meet constitutional requirements outlined in the SRC Constitution.
The disqualifications were announced following the vetting process conducted by the Electoral Commission and Vetting Committee. According to a statement released by the committee, the decisions were made in strict adherence to Chapter Five, Article Ten, Clauses (c) and (d) of the GH SCHOOLS SRC Constitution.
Among those disqualified are two presidential aspirants — Mr. Fred Nana Baffour and Mr. Nathaniel Osei — who were both deemed ineligible under Clause (c). Clause (c) relates specifically to academic or conduct-related criteria that must be satisfied by aspirants vying for executive positions.
In addition, multiple candidates for other key offices were also disqualified under Clause (d), which covers qualifications including participation in school activities, recommendation status, and vetting compliance.
These include:
Miss Stephanie Blessed Nai and Miss Mavis Heartwill Tedeku (General Secretary)
Miss Portia Hellah (Financial Secretary)
Mr. Frederick Mensah and Miss Ntiriwaa Bridget (Organising Secretary)
Mr. Wisdom Awumey (Deputy Organising Secretary)
Mr. Nathaniel Tei Atsekpe (Public Relations Officer)
Miss Felicia Oforiwaa (Women’s Commissioner)
Miss Josephine Araba Aidoo (Health and Welfare Officer)
Out of 24 students who picked up nomination forms, only 15 went through the vetting process. Following evaluations by the Vetting Committee, just four aspirants qualified:
Samuel Aboagye – Vice President
Yayra Jemimah – General Secretary
Greatheart Addison – Deputy Public Relations Officer
Samuel Frimpong – Deputy Organising Secretary
“Out of the 24 students who picked up nomination forms, only 15 showed up for vetting. After careful evaluation, only four aspirants met the requirements,” said the Vetting Committee Chairperson, Attoh Kwamena, in an official briefing on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. “The vetting process is designed to uphold integrity and ensure that all candidates are fully prepared to serve the student body effectively.” he added.

In the wake of the disqualifications, the Electoral Commission announced that nominations have been reopened to allow new aspirants or previously disqualified candidates an opportunity to reapply.
“In the interest of fairness and representation, the Commission has decided to reopen nominations for all vacant positions,” said said Stanley Addo, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. “We encourage all interested and qualified students to take this opportunity seriously and adhere strictly to the constitutional requirements' he added.
As the GH SCHOOLS student community prepares to head to the polls, the disqualifications have sparked conversations around student readiness, constitutional literacy, and the standards expected from student leaders.
