GALAMSEY FIGHT; GJA PRESIDENT PUSHES FOR BOLD ACTIONS

By Osei Nathanael, The Ghana Journalists Association President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has challenged President John Mahama to issue a "Manhyia Declaration" policy statement to mark a renewed and irreversible national resolve to defeat galamsey once and for all. The GJA President's plea came amid escalating violent attacks on anti-galamsey enforcers and journalists. He recounted a briefing where the EPA boss detailed how galamsey operators, aided by armed men in uniforms branded as CID attacked enforcement teams with heavy weapons. Speaking at the 29th GJA Awards, Dwumfour warned that the perpetrators are becoming bolder, more brutal, better organized and operating like gang of terrorists.
