By Osei Nathanael  Ghana's Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has vehemently denied reports that he suggested the Black Queens could boycott their upcoming 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Egypt over outstanding bonuses, as tensions over unpaid player entitlements briefly disrupted preparations for the crucial second-leg match. The controversy erupted when the national women's football team halted training for two days last week, protesting $9,500 per player owed from their bronze-medal finish at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco. Sources close to the team indicated that the players threatened not to play the return fixture against Egypt, scheduled for October 29 in Accra, unless the arrears were settled. The first leg in Cairo ended in a goalless draw, leaving the tie finely poised. According to initial accounts, Adams met with the squad on October 26 to address the grievances but allegedly informed them they could "choose to boycot...

GHANA'S POLITICAL PARTIES AND THE MEDIA: PROMISES, PRIORITIES, AND THE PATH AHEAD

By Osei Nathanael  In the vibrant composition of Ghanaian democracy, the media stands as both a watchdog and a mirror, reflecting societal truths while holding power accountable. As the dust settles from the 2024 general elections, the manifestos of major political parties offer a window into how they envision supporting or reshaping this crucial sector. From bolstering press freedoms to harnessing digital innovation, these documents reveal ideological divides that could influence journalism, broadcasting, and information access in the coming years. GHANA BOXING'S FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL AFTER BAHUBALI'S FALL

Image
By Osei Nathanael  In the heart of Bukom,  boxing has long been more than a sport—it's a lifeline, a rite of passage. This coastal enclave in Accra birthed legends like Azumah Nelson, the "Professor of Boxing" who put Ghana on the global map with three world titles in the 1980s and '90s, and Ike "Bazooka" Quartey, whose welterweight prowess inspired a generation. Yet, on September 23, 2025, that proud legacy cracked irreparably when Ernest "Bahubali" Akushey, a 32-year-old super-middleweight scrapper, slipped away at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital just 11 days after a grueling eight-round loss to Jacob Dickson at the Bukom Boxing Arena.Akushey's death isn't just a tragedy; it's a siren blaring the decay of Ghanaian boxing, demanding we confront a sport teetering on the brink of oblivion. Akushey stepped into the ring on September 12 chasing a comeback, only to absorb punishment that left him battling internal injuries. Preliminary repo...
