The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed two additional cases of Mpox, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to four. The new cases were identified in the Greater Accra and Western regions, according to a press release issued today by the GHS and the Ministry of Health.
This announcement follows an earlier update on May 15, 2025. The National Public Health and Reference Laboratory (NPHRL) confirmed the latest cases, which have no known epidemiological link to the previously reported infections, suggesting possible community transmission.
Regional Health Directorates have swiftly activated public health measures, including contact tracing, to prevent the virus from spreading further.
Mpox, a viral disease transmitted through close contact with infected persons, animals, or contaminated materials, presents symptoms such as rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
Health authorities are strongly advising the public to:
Practice regular hand hygiene,
Avoid close contact with individuals showing symptoms like rashes,
Report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility immediately.
The GHS and the Ministry of Health are calling on media outlets to help raise public awareness and share accurate information about Mpox. The government has reiterated its commitment to protecting public health and implementing effective measures to manage the outbreak.
The statement was signed by Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director General of the Ghana Health Service.
