LEGENDARY HIGHLIFE MUSICIAN DADDY LUMBA PASSES AWAY AT 60

Ghana is in mourning following the passing of one of its most cherished musical icons, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who died on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness.

A statement issued by D106.9 FM and signed by the family’s legal counsel, Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., confirmed the heartbreaking news:

 "With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana’s beloved musical icon, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away earlier today… after a short illness."

Daddy Lumba, aged 60, was a towering figure in the Ghanaian music industry, with a career that spanned over three decades. Known for his distinctive voice, captivating stage presence, and emotionally charged lyrics, he played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of modern highlife music in Ghana and beyond.

"Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives," the statement noted. "His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience."

With dozens of chart-topping albums and timeless hits such as “Aben Wo Ha,” “Yentie Obiaa,” and “Theresa,” Daddy Lumba became a household name whose influence transcended generations. He was also known for nurturing new talents and collaborating with many of Ghana’s top musicians.

Tributes have begun pouring in from fans, fellow musicians, and public figures, all praising his extraordinary contribution to the music scene and Ghanaian culture at large.

The Fosu family has requested privacy during this difficult period as they mourn the loss of their beloved father, brother, and icon.

"During this time of immense loss, we respectfully request privacy for the family and loved ones as they navigate this profound grief," the family’s legal representative added.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
