NCA SUSPENDS OPERATIONS OF NINE RADIO STATIONS OVER REGULATORY BREACHES
Accra, 12th August 2025
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across the country for various infractions, following the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama to enable defaulting stations to comply with broadcasting regulations.
According to the NCA, the affected stations failed to remedy violations of laws governing FM radio broadcasting in Ghana, despite the regulatory amnesty. Six stations were cited for refusing, neglecting, or failing to take corrective action and have since been ordered off air. These include:
1. Donplus Multimedia Limited – 105.9 MHz (Ho)
2. Dreams Ghana Media Limited – 104.9 MHz (New Abirem)
3. Jam Multimedia Limited – 101.3 MHz (Kintampo)
4. Jewel Group Limited – 102.7 MHz (Duaayaw Nkwanta)
5. Kpandai Star Community Radio – 107.3 MHz (Kpandai)
6. Unique Gateway Communication Limited – 105.7 MHz (Nkawkaw)
The NCA further disclosed that three other stations were suspended for operating without a Certificate of Compliance in contravention of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991). These stations were also found to be using unauthorised Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and unapproved transmitter sites. They are:
1. Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited – 95.9 MHz (Accra)
2. Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited – 101.3 MHz (Kumasi)
3. Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited – 101.3 MHz (Takoradi)
The Authority stated that it will continue to monitor the broadcasting space to ensure operators comply with licensing conditions and all relevant regulations.
“The NCA remains committed to enforcing the laws governing broadcasting in Ghana to safeguard the integrity of the airwaves,” the statement said.
