POLICE STATION CLOSED AND PERSONNEL WITHDRAWN AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK IN KUKURANTUMI

The Eastern Regional Police Command has announced the closure of the Kukurantumi Police Station and the withdrawal of all personnel following a violent attack by local youths on September 21, 2025. The Inspector-General of Police ordered the shutdown after the station and barracks were targeted with stones, clubs, and attempts to set the building ablaze.
According to the press release the incident, which began around 7am, was triggered by the death of a suspect, Bright Kena also known as D-ball, who had been arrested for unlawful entry and stealing. The deceased passed away while receiving treatment at the Kukurantumi Community Hospital. Preliminary investigations indicate that angered youths attacked the station in response.

A police reinforcement team was deployed to restore calm and order. The Eastern Regional Police Command has engaged the deceased’s family and community leaders, assuring a thorough investigation. The Police Professional Standards Bureau and the Criminal Investigations Department are conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Kena’s death.
Video footage of the attack is being reviewed to identify and arrest the perpetrators, who will face justice. The Command has urged the public to resolve issues through lawful means, condemning the resort to violence.
