GHANA SECURES 12 MEDIA ACCREDITATION SPOTS FOR THE 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that FIFA has allocated 12 media accreditation spots to Ghana for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, providing a valuable opportunity for local journalists and photographers to cover the global tournament.
This allocation, confirmed as the media accreditation process officially opened on January 26, 2026, includes 10 spots for written press (journalists from print, online, and digital platforms) and 2 spots for photographers. These quotas are designated for non-rights-holding media representatives and are distributed by the GFA through special "control keys," based on factors such as Ghana's historical World Cup participation and recent qualification success.
The news comes on the heels of the Black Stars' qualification for their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance. Ghana sealed their spot in the expanded 48-team tournament with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Comoros in the final qualifier, where Mohammed Kudus scored the decisive goal in the second half under head coach Otto Addo. The Black Stars topped their CAF qualifying group with 25 points, showcasing strong performances from stars like Jordan Ayew (top scorer with seven goals) and others.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June to July 2026, marks a historic expansion and promises to be the largest edition yet. Ghanaian media professionals interested in these spots are urged to contact the GFA promptly to request a control key and complete their applications via the official FIFA Media Hub before the March 31, 2026 deadline. Demand is expected to be high, and all applicants will undergo mandatory security checks.
Accreditation grants access to stadium media centers, though separate media tickets will be required for matches, press conferences, mixed zones, and photo positions. Media representatives are also advised to begin visa applications early, as the process is independent of accreditation.
