MOROCCO'S FRMF CONDEMNS SENEGAL'S WALK-OFF IN AFCON 2025 FINAL, VOWS LEGAL ACTION

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has issued an official statement condemning the Senegalese national team's withdrawal from the pitch during the final match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 against Morocco's Atlas Lions.

In the communiqué published on the FRMF's official channels, the federation announced its intention to pursue legal action before the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA. This follows the Senegalese team's temporary walk-off in protest after a stoppage-time penalty was awarded to Morocco.

The FRMF described the penalty decision following a VAR review for a foul on Moroccan forward Brahim Díaz as legitimate and upheld by consensus among experts. It emphasized that the Senegalese players' withdrawal "significantly disrupted the normal course of the match" and had a major impact on the flow of play and the performance of both teams and players.

The statement highlighted the incidents surrounding the referee's call, including what the FRMF views as unacceptable behavior that affected the ordinary progression of the game and the specialist players involved.

On another note, the FRMF expressed deep gratitude to the Moroccan national team coach, staff, and players for their efforts throughout the tournament. It also thanked the Moroccan public for their massive support, vibrant presence in the stadiums, and unwavering encouragement during the national team's matches and remaining fixtures. The federation praised these contributions as key factors in the success of this continental championship edition.

The FRMF reiterated its commitment to upholding the values of fair play and sportsmanship while seeking appropriate accountability for the events that marred the final.

The chaotic scenes in the AFCON 2025 final hosted by Morocco saw Senegal eventually return to the pitch after a lengthy delay and went on to win 1-0 in extra time via Pape Gueye's strike, claiming their second AFCON title.

However, the match was overshadowed by protests, a disallowed Senegal goal earlier, and the walk-off, prompting widespread debate over refereeing decisions and conduct. The FRMF's statement reflects Morocco's dissatisfaction and push for disciplinary measures against Senegal.
