NACOC ARRESTS NOTORIOUS DRUG 'QUEEN' IN MAJOR RAID AT BUDUBURAM

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has dealt a significant blow to local drug trafficking networks following a high-profile intelligence-led operation in Buduburam and surrounding communities in the Gomoa East Municipality.

On Friday, January 16, 2026, NACOC operatives conducted a major raid targeting suspected drug dens and distribution points as part of the agency's ongoing nationwide campaign to eradicate drug trafficking and abuse in Ghana.

Among those arrested was 32-year-old Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known in the area as “Mother” or the local “drug queen.” Described by community opinion leaders and authorities as a central figure in the illicit drug trade, Kotei had reportedly evaded capture for years despite her prominent role in peddling narcotics.

Several other suspects were also taken into custody during the operation. Authorities seized substantial quantities of illicit substances, including suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled drugs, along with paraphernalia linked to drug distribution.

In a statement, NACOC emphasized its unwavering commitment to building a drug-free Ghana. “This operation underscores our resolve to dismantle drug networks and hold all perpetrators accountable,” the Commission said. All arrested individuals will be processed and arraigned before the courts in accordance with the law.

The raid has been hailed by local residents and anti-narcotics advocates as a long-overdue step in addressing persistent drug-related challenges in the Buduburam area, a former refugee settlement that has faced ongoing issues with substance abuse and trafficking.

NACOC continues to urge the public to provide credible information on drug activities through its confidential tip lines, promising swift action based on intelligence.
This development comes amid intensified enforcement efforts across the country, with NACOC vowing to sustain pressure on drug syndicates in both urban and rural communities.
