The Assembly, working in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, launched immediate investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tree cutting at the Aburi Botanical Gardens. This beloved ecological and tourism landmark, established in 1890, features a diverse collection of indigenous and exotic trees, including historic species like silk cotton (Ceiba pentandra), mahogany, and cedar. It serves as a key site for conservation, education, and tourism in Ghana's Eastern Region, attracting visitors for its cool climate, scenic beauty, and cultural significance.

"The Aburi Botanical Gardens is a treasured ecological and tourism asset that must be protected for present and future generations," the press release emphasized. The Assembly reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice is served and preventing any recurrence of such incidents.

A technical team has been deployed to assess the extent of the damage, with a restoration plan to be developed in consultation with the Department of Parks and Gardens in Accra.

The Assembly urged the public to remain calm, allow the investigative process to proceed without interference, and report any credible information to the Assembly or the Aburi Police Station. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

The incident highlights ongoing challenges in safeguarding protected natural sites amid pressures on land and resources in the region. Authorities have assured that those found culpable will face the full rigours of the law.
